Ganesha the God of Obstacles is the son of Lord Shiva (The God of Destruction & Creation) & Parvati. Shortly after conception, the gods went to visit Shiva and Parvati, taking with them a great elephant. Parvati was terrified at seeing the huge beast. The image became so imprinted in her mind, that she gave birth to the elephant-headed Ganesha.
